| In 1832, on the eve of leaving
France to go to America, Chopin was by a coincidence introduced by his old friend Prince
Antonin Radziwill to Baron James de Rothschild. Overnight, Chopin received a mass of
requests for piano lessons and he stayed in Paris. Today, Baron Benjamin de
Rothschild, Chairman of the LCF Rothschild Group, is the great-great-grandson of James. As an acknowledgment of the patronage extended by Baron James de Rothschild and
his wife Betty over the years, Chopin dedicated in 1847 his Valse
Op. 64, N° 2 in C sharp minor to "Madame la Baronne de Rothschild",
Charlotte (portrait), who was the eldest child and only daughter of James and Betty.
