Icons of Europe

Icons of Europe™ is a not-for-profit association based at Brussels, Belgium.  We use great culture as a platform for dialogue and inspiration related to contemporary issues.

Fryderyk Chopin (1810-1849) in 1838. Fragment of an unfinished painting by Eugène Delacroix. Musée de Louvre, Paris. We believe that Icons of art, music, literature and science capture the imagination and stimulate cross-border exchanges of ideas and knowledge on contemporary societal issues.  For example:  the identity of Europe, transatlantic relations, and the re-emergence of tuberculosis.  Relating to all three examples, the subject of CHOPIN's life and legacy has become a particularly important priority for our work.  Chopin 2010 will be a milestone.

Other Icons of Europe research priorities are NAPOLEON's rise to power in France and Europe, the cultural exchanges of the distinguished 19th century BOSTON SATURDAY CLUB with Europe, and the life, works and downfall of OSCAR WILDE.

.
This flag is a symbol for the Council of Europe (Strasbourg) and the European Union. Founded in 2001
Icons of Europe was inaugurated under the auspices of
the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Mr Walter Schwimmer.
